Liberty Mounten

The Middle East

Writing Backwards

One of Liberty's most interesting and enjoyable times was in 1985 when he and the band were flown to the United Arab Emirates, to do a seven-date tour including Bahrain, al-Ain, Dubai, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. While there, Liberty stayed at the Hilton in the Sultan Suite with its two television sets, five telephones, and three bathrooms. What hardship!

He went to the Suq and took many interesting pictures, then returned to find that he had forgotten to load the camera. (That's why this page is a bit short on pictures.) Of course, Liberty had university education in the Arabic language, among others, and so he has always got along well with the Arab people. He is greatly interested in returning to work in Egypt, where he received his practical Arabic training, to see if it has changed since his time there at the American University in Cairo.

Liberty worked at the Bahrain Sheraton, An-Nasr Leisureland in Dubai, the Hilton in Abu-Dhabi, and a place in Qatar whose name he can't remember. The booking agents made $7500 a night for the show. Don't ask what Lib and the Band received. One lives and learns. To the left is Liberty with George, a bouncer. Liberty is six-two.
